Mike's Place Bar Goes Kosher with New Location
opening night will be held Thursday with local bands. The old location was torn down along with several old buildings near Zion Square in downtown Jerusalem to make way for the new condominiums. Now the local hot spot has opened up a block away.
The new location is attempting to attract a broad range of clientele by offering a certified kosher menu, and staying closing on Shabbat. The location became known as a place for English speakers ranging from America yeshiva students, tourists and locals to hang out and watch foreign sports games such as the Superbowl. The popular open mic nights and jam sessions also offer an opportunity for amateurs to perform live. Mike's Place originally opened in 1993.
Reuben Beiser, the new owner of the Jerusalem location said that even before their opening day last week, he saw people taking photos of the new sign. He says the reactions from neighboring establishments have been positive and their presence can make the area feel less disorganized.
