"Did you look at the sky today?" A Jewish Musical Journey
"It's not that the Levites were snobs and didn't want to play the music to the Goyim. They really wanted to play, but they were not on the spiritual plane that allows one to play such music. To play the music of Zion, one has to be in Zion." So says Yoel Taieb, of the Techelet Ensemble. Born to a Sephardic French Tunisian family, his dream was to be a great jazz-man, but his journey ended up in Israel where today he fuses jazz inprovisation and chassidic melodies into modern Jewish music. Tune in as he talks about his musical quest and his relationship with the influential Rabbi Yisroel Dov Ber Odesser, better known as Sabba.
